Spinningfields – Manchester: Plot 202- General Medical Council Building

Over the last decade Spinningfields has evolved to become the home for over 165 commercial organisations. The commercial building on No. 3 Hardman Street houses offices for General Medical Council, Deloite and DMF, as well as retail outlets and ground floor underground parking.  Atom Consultants lent their hand with BIM co-ordination for the contractor Sir Robert McAlpine. The particular challenge on this project was presented by the planning of service routing to avoid clashes with the stressing tendons incorporated into the pre-stressed concrete floors. This high quality development is a great addition to Manchester’s commercial and legal district, well-fit for the city’s leading business destination.

” The 4D visualisation of our construction sequence which Atom Consultants developed for our bid proposals were of great assistance to us in winning this landmark project. “

Paul Walker
Project Director
Sir Robert McAlpine

The main part of the project was to make the access to the station step-free, enabling the station to handle 40% more passengers by installing a new shaft and lift between the ticket hall and platforms. A particular challenge was posed by the station remaining fully operational while the construction work took place between 2014 and 2016.
